15 Years Active in Real Estate

What was your career prior to real estate, if applicable?

After college I joined the General Electric Company through their management training program.  I worked at GE for 17 years and had opportunities to work in several GE businesses (Medical Systems, Aircraft Engines, Power Generation) in various locations around the county. My last position was as Chief Information Officer for GE’s Client Business Services in Ft. Myers, FL.

What type of leadership roles have you held outside of real estate?

During my career with GE, I held a variety of leadership positions.  In my last position, I was responsible for an organization of 125 people, with a budget of $10M.  During my real estate career, I have served on the Grievance Committee and currently serve on the Professional Standards Committee. I have also held volunteer leadership positions at my children’s school.

As a voice for your colleagues, what strengths/insights will you bring to the Board discussions?

My prior career provided me with invaluable business and leadership experience. My skills include effectively working with diverse groups of people, managing competing demands for time and resources, and negotiating. Particularly relevant is my focus on continuous improvement and capitalizing on the benefits brought about by the rapid changes in our industry.

What issues do you feel the Association should be addressing?

The Association has done a great job providing productivity tools to its members, such as DocuSign and zipForms.  I believe this is an important role for the Association – continuing to identify, evaluate, and provide technology tools to improve the processes that are common across our transactions and business. The Association should also continue to provide and improve the education and training that raises our standards of professionalism.

Why are you interested in serving as a member of the Board of Directors?

During my real estate career, I have been very impressed with Suburban West. They have embraced the idea of continuous improvement – focusing their efforts on providing the most value to members. I look forward to being part of this – stepping out of the day-to-day transactions and focusing on improving our business processes and professionalism.
