Please expand on your previous leadership experience.
I have been involved in leadership roles almost my entire life. A lot of my leadership roles started in athletics – from being team captain to coaching youth sports to high school athletics at a state championship level. In my previous career (three decades ago) as a professional musician I was a band leader and group manager. Throughout my real estate career aside from my role as an agent I have spent countless hours in the classroom teaching continuing education and designation classes. For the past eight years I have served as a sale office leader where I can blend all of my experiences to coach, educate, and develop leadership skills in both individual agents and team leaders.
What role do you hope to play on the Board?
The role I hope to play on the Board is one of an advocate for the Tri-County Suburban REALTOR® members. I have been in the business for almost twenty five years. As an active sales agent and also a sales office leaders I can empathize with the daily challenges almost any agent might face. I can be a voice for the membership by being compassionate to what agents encounter. I am able to see their struggles first hand from both the perspective of an agent in the field and from a management and leadership perspective, and this gives me the opportunity to voice what they need to succeed.
What Association benefits and/or offerings have provided you the most value in your business?
The Association benefits and offerings that have provided the most value in my business are the education and networking opportunities, our affiliation with the Suburban REALTORS® Alliance, and the timely updates and information we receive through the Tri-County Today weekly newsletter and Suburban REALTORS® Alliance weekly news. For me, the information we receive is crucial for staying current and relevant. The top-shelf education and networking that comes in the classroom and at events helps me stay sharp, skilled, and connected to our REALTOR® community. The Suburban REALTOR® Alliance website is beyond valuable for giving me the most up-to-date information regarding all the counties I serve, and their advocacy for our agents to push back against unreasonable and overly aggressive townships has proved to be indispensable.
What industry trends do you feel will affect our association in the upcoming years?
believe the industry trends that will affect our association in upcoming years will continue to evolve. Understanding that each year something new and unexpected will affect our members, and being adaptable and open minded to respond to such matters is more important that trying to guess what the next big thing or crisis might be. One current industry trend such as changes to modes of agent compensation and regulations regarding compensation will continue to impact day to day operations for cooperative transactions.
What do you think should be the priority issues being addressed by the Association today?
The priority issues that should be addressed by the Association today should be anything that impacts any agent in their day to day business such as MLS regulations and oversight, changes to legal matters affecting compensation and agency, and how agents choose to cooperate with each other by working together for the best interest of the consumer.
Why are you interested in serving on the Board of Directors?
I am interested in being considered as a Director nominee for the Tri-County Suburban REALTORS® Association to serve and give back to our profession, and more importantly, to give back to the agents who are working so hard to make a living, or even to just get their careers started. I have been very fortunate to be mentored by many esteemed members of our local, state, and national REALTOR® associations. Their time was given to me freely, and this is my chance to pay that forward. Being a REALTOR® can be both a rewarding and heartbreaking experience. The fact that I still feel both of those emotions and everything in between translates to compassion and a drive to help everyone of our members improve their business and their life.
