The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) offers a variety of professional development opportunities through specialized designations and certifications designed to help REALTORS® expand their expertise, strengthen their business, and better serve their clients.

All NAR designations and certifications are owned and administered by NAR. While all courses are available online for flexible, self-paced learning, The Association of REALTORS® School also offers select designation and certification courses in person throughout the year for members who prefer a classroom experience and live instruction.

Designations

Designations are specialized credentials for REALTORS®. Designations offer extensive benefits that are continually improved upon and expanded.

For this reason, maintaining a designation requires annual dues and continued membership in good standing in NAR.

Popular designations include: Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR®), Seller Representative Specialist (SRS),  & Seniors Real Estate Specialist® (SRES®).

Certifications

Like designations, certifications are specialized credentials for REALTORS®.

Maintaining a certification requires only an application fee and continued membership in good standing in NAR, but no annual dues.

Popular certifications include: Pricing Strategy Advisor (PSA), Luxury Homes, & Real Estate Negotiation Expert (RENE).

Certificates

A certificate is a professional qualification.

REALTORS® who earn a certificate acquire a skill in a specific field, which is evidence of knowledge and competency.

Certificates do not have annual dues, application fees or a credential to list after your name. Once you earn the certificate, it’s yours in perpetuity.

Continuing Education Credits For Designations, Certifications & Certificates

Not all online Designation, Certification or Certificate courses have received continuing education approval from Pennsylvania. Consult the specific course page to identify whether a course offers PA Real Estate license renewal credit.
